Salt Lake City, UT - February 8, 2002 -- Far from the wilds of the Western plains but not from American traditions, internationally renowned cowboy-poet Waddie Mitchell has set his pen to weave a tapestry of words that reflect the spirit for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games"The Buckaroo Poet" was commissioned by the 2002 Cultural Olympiad to write the Official Olympic Poem in celebration of the Olympic Winter Games and paralympic Games of 2002.

His offering, "That No Quit Attitude" is not only featured in the Official Souvenir Program of the 2002 Winter Games, Mitchell will also recite the selection during an Olympic celebration performance at the Olympiad Cultural Theatre in Salt Lake City on February 12.
Additionally, his poem is featured as part of the "Welcome To Salt Lake" film which appears on Delta Airlines in-flight presentation, the Olympic Arts Festival, the 2002 Winter Games Website as well as in schools and libraries throughout the country.  Western Jubilee Records has released a Limited Edition CD single available in record stores and other locations or contact the label's website (www.WesternJubliee.com).

Growing up on a remote Nevada ranch where the father worked, Waddie was immesed in the cowboy way of entertaining, the Western art of spinnin' tales in rhyme and meter.  Within his story, "That No Quit Attitude," are the common bonds all sthletes at these Olympic games will come to share, moments both grand and commonplace, humorous and triumphant and told in a voice that is timeless and comfortable.
Waddie has performed internationally for audiences from Los Angeles to New York, Zurich to Melbourne and all points in between.  With television appearances ranging from The Tonight Show, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, TNN, The History Cannel, PBS and BBC.  He has also been featured in People, Life Magazine, USA Today, Fortune, National Geographic, the Official Program for Supe Bowl XXX and the Wall Street journal.  His writings and recordings have received critical acclaim as well as numerous awards and honors.
